03 · What it costs

GATE 2027 application fees

Fees are per test paper. If you register for two papers, you pay the amount twice. All payments are online (credit/debit card, UPI or net banking) and are non-refundable.

04 · Step by step

How to register on GOAPS

The whole application happens on GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System), linked from gate2027.iitm.ac.in. Set aside about 30 minutes with your documents ready.

  1. Create your GOAPS account

On the GOAPS portal, register with your name exactly as on your photo ID, a valid email and a mobile number. You'll receive a unique Enrolment ID and set a password — save both; you'll need them for the admit card and result too.

  2. Verify your identity with DigiLocker

DigiLocker verification is mandatory for all Indian nationals in GATE 2027. Keep your Aadhaar-linked DigiLocker ready so you can complete this step without delay.

  3. Fill in the application form

Enter your personal details, communication address, qualifying-degree and college details, your choice of GATE paper (and an optional second paper), and your exam-city preferences.

  4. Upload your documents

Upload your photograph and signature in the required format and size, plus your category or PwD certificate if you're claiming the lower fee. Enter the ID-proof number correctly — the original must be carried to the exam.

  5. Pay the application fee

Pay the fee for your category online. If you chose two papers, the portal charges you twice. Note the transaction reference in case a payment is debited but not confirmed.

  6. Review, submit and save the PDF

Check every field, submit before the deadline, and download the confirmation PDF and fee receipt. Track your application status from the GOAPS dashboard afterwards.

05 · What to prepare

Documents required

Have these ready as scanned files before you start. The photo and signature specs below are from the last official GATE brochure — IIT Madras is expected to keep them, but confirm on the 2027 portal.

Documents and file specifications for GATE 2027 registration
DocumentRequirement
PhotographRecent colour photo, white background, JPEG, 3.5 × 4.5 cm, 200×260 to 530×690 px, 5 KB–600 KB.
SignatureBlack or dark-blue ink on white paper, JPEG, 250×80 to 580×180 px, 3 KB–300 KB.
Category certificateSC/ST certificate (PDF) — required only to claim the reduced fee.
PwD certificateFor Persons with Benchmark Disability (≥40%) — for fee concession and scribe/compensatory time.
Dyslexia certificateFor candidates claiming a scribe or extra time on grounds of a learning disability.
Photo ID proofAadhaar (preferred), passport, PAN, voter ID, driving licence or valid college ID. The original is carried to the exam.
Degree certificateProvisional or course-completion certificate for final-year students whose degree isn't issued yet.

Uploading the wrong format or an oversized file is the most common reason an application stalls — check each file against the spec before you submit.

06 · Don't slip here

Mistakes to avoid

Most rejected or delayed applications come down to a handful of avoidable errors. Fix these before you submit.

Six things that get applications rejected

  • A name that doesn't exactly match your photo ID — this can get you turned away at the exam centre.
  • Uploading a photo or signature in the wrong format or size instead of the JPEG specs above.
  • Picking a second paper that isn't an approved combination, or the wrong paper code.
  • Forgetting to upload the SC/ST or PwD certificate and paying the higher fee by mistake.
  • Leaving it to the last day — portal load and payment failures cost people the regular-fee deadline.
  • Not saving your Enrolment ID, password, transaction reference and the submitted PDF.
